Why The 4th of July Is A Good Time To Buy A Car

What does the 4th of July mean? Hot dog eating contests, parades, fireworks, and a three-day weekend!

According to a 2016 study by iSeeCars.com, the best holidays to find a deal on a used car are Veteran’s Day, 4th of July, Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving), and Christmas Eve. Since the 4th of July falls on a Saturday this year, the long three-day weekend allows more time to go car shopping. Because holiday weekends are popular times of the year to buy new cars, with generous incentives and big sales on car lots, there are loads of vehicles coming back to the dealers as trade-ins or lease returns. Private party sellers will also be trying to get rid of their old cars so they can take advantage of the deals.

Car dealers typically offer deals on long weekends to entice buyers for a few reasons:

  • A three-day weekend means customers have an extra day to go car shopping. Dealerships will ramp up their sales efforts with “events” and other promotions and incentives.

  • Holiday car shoppers typically plan to visit multiple dealerships in one day so car dealers will do anything they can to not lose you to the competition and bring you to their showroom floor.

  • Convertibles and sports cars show well over the summer months.

  • There should be a greater mix of incoming and current-year vehicles around the 4th of July. It is worth looking at what is on the lot if you're unsure whether you want the car from the outgoing or the incoming year.

  • The weather is nice enough that people want to get out of the house, but hot enough that when you visit the dealership you’ll want to test drive an air conditioned car or spend time inside the showroom.

  • Car salesman have restarted their monthly quotas and want to get a jump on their July numbers to hit their bonus targets. Especially since this is the only holiday of the month.

When do 4th of July car sales start?

The 4th of July weekend runs Friday July 3rd through Monday July 6th 2020. While dealership sales events start Friday and run through Monday, most published 4th of July offers are good for the entire month. However, salesmen will be most willing to negotiate during the weekend itself to meet their holiday quotas.

How does COVID19 affect 4th of July sales?

This year is set to have one of the strangest Independence Day holidays of all time. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, community and family gatherings will likely be much smaller than usual. What won't be small, though, is the amount of money you can save if you're in the market for a new car.

As American businesses reopen, automakers are rolling out the red, white, and blue carpet this 4th of July to bring traffic into showrooms. Shoppers can save thousands of dollars with generous financing, cash-back, and lease deals during the holiday weekend.

The best financing deals in the marketplace have zero percent interest rates, so you won't pay a cent in interest over the life of your loan.

In many cases, you’ll never have to visit the dealership to take advantage of a great car deal. Car dealerships have changed their sales procedures so you can shop from your living room, and have the vehicle delivered to your doorstep.
