How To Shop Black Friday Car Sales

Americans love a good bargain, which is why Black Friday has become such a major event in this country. Black Friday is an excellent day to go shopping for everything from clothes to appliances. However, if you're in the market to trade up or trading in your current vehicle, you should consider taking advantage of this year’s black Friday car sales!

Black Friday has become one of the single best days of the year to buy a car. According to Edmunds research, 15 percent of total November car sales take place on Black Friday weekend. Big-box retailers get most of the Black Friday attention. But just like them, car dealerships may be open longer, offer enticing perks and advertise some serious discounts, all in hopes of stealing your attention from other retail competition.

Still questioning if Black Friday is a good time for you purchase a new vehicle? Ask yourself the following questions: What kind of deals is your local dealership offering? Some dealerships might offer Black Friday car sales with deals on the vehicle you want because they have specific sales goals to meet. Dealerships also offer Black Friday car sales incentives such as free televisions with purchase. You might even be able to score an interest-free loan if you shop on Black Friday. Do you have your heart set on a particular vehicle? If so, the longer you wait to buy, the less likely your preferred car will still be in stock.

If you do decide to take advantage of Black Friday car sales, there are steps you can take to make the process less stressful.

  • If you're trading in your current vehicle, you want to get an appraisal on your trade in ahead of time.

  • Go online and review the dealer's inventory before you go to the dealership. This will allow you to make a backup list of potential vehicles in case the one you want is already gone.

  • Get to the dealership as early as you can. This strategy will help you beat the crowds, which can really speed up your deal. And since you've already decided on the car and know the pricing, chances are good you can be in and out of the dealership quickly.

  • Ask for the vehicle to be prepped before you arrive. If you know the exact model, package and color of the car you intend to buy, ask your salesperson to have it washed and ready to go when you arrive Friday.

  • Review dealership ads, especially the fine print. You don't want any surprises when you arrive at the dealership, so look into the details of any deal before you get there. You can also call or email the dealership to get quotes ahead of time. Keep in mind that sales prices might only apply to certain trim levels or engines. Also, some deals are only available to specific customers such as military veterans. Dealer incentives like free televisions also have restrictions attached, so again be sure to read the fine print.

  • Have all of your paperwork current and ready to go before you head to the dealership. Bring your driver's license, proof of auto insurance and your method of payment. If you've got a trade-in, bring in its corresponding paperwork, too. Remember, many businesses will be closed for business on Black Friday. So if you bring in an expired auto insurance card, for example, it may be a challenge to get in touch with your insurance company to prove the policy is up to date.

  • Be prepared to wait. Even if you arrive early, the dealership might be understaffed, and you still might have to wait. Salespeople often have to juggle several customers at the same time, especially on big days like Black Friday.

  • Find out when you can take your perks home. Can you take your free television with you that day? If not, when will you receive it?

  • Don't expect to have time to haggle with the dealer. The dealership will be very busy on Black Friday, and salespeople are going to make sales as quickly as possible. Also, Black Friday sales prices are usually final.

  • Ask if the dealer has delivery service. Some dealers will deliver the vehicle and paperwork to your house, so you don't even have to step foot inside the dealership. If the dealership does deliver, it probably won't be able to do so until after Thanksgiving weekend, so be prepared to wait on your new car.

When do black Friday car sales start?

Black Friday car sales start Friday November 27th and run through Cyber Monday on November 30th 2020. While dealership sales events start Friday and run through Monday, many published Black Friday car sales offers are good for the entire month of November. However, salesmen will be most willing to negotiate during the weekend itself to meet their holiday quotas.
