Ford Bronco vs. Jeep Wrangler: Who’s Boss?

With Ford bringing back the iconic Bronco, the debate has already begun with rival Wrangler owners on who has the most hardcore SUV. The new 2021 Bronco has been massively hyped up and lives up to the clout with the retro styling, removable doors, and windows immediately putting the Jeep Wrangler on notice. To make sure we got the best of each model had to offer, we took a look at the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and Ford Bronco Badlands the top line, 4x4 model for each competitor!

Exterior: The Bronco has a slightly longer wheelbase at 190.5in to the Wrangler’s 188.4. When it come to wheelbase, the Bronco is nearly 2 inches shorter at 116.1 – why is this important? It means the Bronco will carry a better breakover angle. This is important because it will give you an idea of how easily a vehicle may be able to clear rough and rocky obstacles. Match that with the impressive 35-inch tires on the Bronco and you have better ground clearance & better water fording capabilities.

Muscle: The Wrangler comes with a standard 3.6-liter V6 engine, compares to the Bronco 2.3-liter EcoBoost I4. Although the Ford has a smaller motor, it has a higher torque output than the Wrangler’s V6. In order to top the Bronco’s numbers, the Wrangler would require the optional 3.0-liter V6 diesel. Ford packs all this torque into either a 7-speed manual or 10-speed auto ultra smooth transmission, the Wrangler rounds out this section with the standard 6-speed manual and 8-speed auto.

Interior: The Jeep Wrangler maintains that rugged look on the interior with the big boxy center stack, flat dash, and round A/C vents reminiscent of older Wrangler and CJ Models, but the infotainment systems quickly brings this Jeep into the modern era. The Bronco gains a little more of an upscale look on the interior, the large vertical vents are typical to ford & the thinner center stack and spoke steering wheel lend it a cleaner interior.

After examining these head-to-head off-road beasts the verdict isn’t so clear. The Wrangler comes with time honored tradition and a huge following of owners that like to customize and upgrade their vehicles. The Bronco enters a highly loyal segment with a highly anticipated remake that has launched during uncertain times. One thing is for certain, the 18-month waiting list that Ford has compiled after much fanfare is nothing to laugh at. However, features like the power retractable roof and naturally aspirated engine will keep the Wrangler around for years to come! What vehicle do you think takes the cake?
